ELKHART — Two famous names in funk and R&B will take the stage in downtown Elkhart this Saturday, Sept. 6 as part of an outdoor celebration.
The City of Elkhart and The Lerner Theatre announced that Kool & the Gang and special guest The Commodores will perform 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 on Central Green, 300 S Main St, Elkhart.
The free concert, presented by the Elkhart County Convention and Visitors Bureau, is part of The Lerner’s 100th anniversary festivities.
Gates, food trucks and a beer garden will open at 5:30 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets, but large coolers, tents and umbrellas will not be permitted. VIP tables with reserved seating, parking passes and lounge access remain available through The Lerner Theatre box office.
Organizers said the large-scale event will close some downtown roads and parking lots, and visitors should plan extra time to navigate construction detours.
ADA parking will be available along the west side of Main Street and in the lot adjacent to the Prosecuting Attorney’s office with proper permits, and updates will be shared on The Lerner Theatre’s Facebook page in case of emergency.
The concert marks a rare chance for Michiana audiences to hear Kool & the Gang, recent Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees known for hits such as “Celebration” and “Jungle Boogie,” alongside Motown legends The Commodores, who have sold more than 70 million albums worldwide.
