Alice Edwards

Alice Edwards
Alice Edwards, 58, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025.
She was born April 23, 1967.
When Alice departed this life, she had an extra special place in her heart for JaQwan Nelson/nephew, Lamaria Nelson, Edward Nelson, Laray Nelson, Jessie Nelson, Elizabeth Nelson, Antonio Nelson Jr. and Frankie Nelson. She graciously cared for them upon the loss of their mother, Tiffany Marie Edwards, who was named after Alice.
Alice was preceded in death by her son, Montre Edwards, who we called “Money Man”; her sister, Camilla Edwards; her brother, Charles Edwards; her father, Charles Ivory; her grandparents, Addie Washington and Earl Washington; and her aunt who she loved dearly, Mable Palmer. There are so many other family members who greeted “Penny” at heaven’s door.
She leaves to cherish her memories her mother, Essie Edwards, who she loved dearly; sisters, Charlotte and Joyce Edwards; her aunts, Emma Jean House and Delores Willis, who loved Penny unconditionally; Christine Washington; and her nieces who held a special place in her heart who she helped raise, Diamond Marshall, Ali Edwards and Breaisa Hassel. Penny played an important role in the lives of so many of her great-nephews, Malichi, and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, friends and family.
Penny was so much to so many that until starting this journey to make sure to include everyone who she was important to, it was discovered that there were so many, all the names couldn’t fit on to a piece of paper. Her love was greater than adding names to a piece of paper for recognition. Sending love to our Chicago family, who Penny shared her time and love with, and they welcomed her in their hearts with open arms. She always spoke of the good times she had spending it with all of you. Thank you to Auntie Wennie for being a special part of Penny’s life. You showed your love to her unconditionally without fail, and we are thankful. She had you in her life to help balance everything she was going through, good and bad. Thank you, Auntie Sis, for your love and being a place where she felt safe and at peace whenever she was with you.
Special thanks to my mother because she has been strong through all of this. We know how much you will miss Penny and her calls, her visits, even if it was just to go and get her favorite meal, which everyone knows was fried chicken. Thank you, Essie Mae Edwards, for the life you gave Penny, for the sister you gave to your daughters and the giving person who meant so much to so many people. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Love leaves a memory no one can steal.
A special thanks to her Warsaw family with the unconditional love you showed; words can never express the appreciation. She leaves a tremendous positive impact on the Strengthening Families Program and Celebrate Recovery Program families, along with countless other organizations she was a part of. She was happy to offer time, wisdom and care to all.
Alford’s Mortuary, South Bend, has been entrusted with the arrangements, which are pending.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at Touch of Life Church, 2339 W. Old Road 30, Warsaw. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made for the needs of Alice’s six nieces and nephews, whom she dedicated her life to across the last five years.
