NORTH WEBSTER — North Webster Town Council heard about the town’s new proposed trail and sidewalk, live-steaming its meetings and an event to take place in North Webster next month. The meeting was held Tuesday night, Aug. 19.
The new trail plan is coming along, said President Dan Thystrup. He had a meeting with USI Consulting and the plan is “ready.” Now it must go before INDOT to see if there’s any changes.
“It’s in the works,” said Thyrsrup. “It is up to INDOT to approve it and make any changes. It’s moving along on track.”
He said it is on “NIPSCO time line now” and it may not start until 2029, although it could be sooner.
Due to the fact that council meetings need to be live-streamed and recorded for the public, due to a new law, they will be posted on the town’s website, once it it completed. The town has set up a Zoom account, said Clerk Treasurer LeighAnne Jessop, and meetings will be put on a YouTube account and she will set up a Facebook account in order to post the agendas and the minutes of meetings, along with a recording of the meetings, until the website gets going, she said. The new website will eventually be on in.gov.
In the meantime, the board agreed to purchase an Owl system that will cost $985.48 in order to videotape meetings in the future.
In Department reports, Utilities Superintendent Mike Noe said brush pickup is being conducted weekly, and was last done Aug. 11.
The council approved the purchase of two vacuum pits for a sewer system on W30 Lane for two cabins at a cost of about $3,500 per cabin.
Police Chief Greg Church gave the police report for July. There were 808.25 officer hours, 4,631 miles driven and 388.97 gallons of fuel used. There were 326 calls of service, 18 of which were battery, fights or domestic calls. There were three criminal mischief calls, three theft or fraud calls, four drug related calls, five alcohol related calls, and 55 traffic related calls. There were 19 accidents or vehicles in ditches, 39 citizen assist or lock outs, and 23 agency assistance calls.
New trick or treat hours are from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 31.
A fundraiser will be held at Lake Lube as it is their 30th anniversary next month. The car and motorcycle show will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 13. It is a fundraiser for a teen cancer patient, Angie Chavez, who is a freshman at Wawasee High School. All proceeds will go to the family.
A portion of the Effie Mae, off SR 13, will be blocked off for the car show, if need be. The board approved the road closure.
The next meeting is at 6 p.m. Sept. 16.
