Preparations underway for the 2026 Primary and General Elections

INDIANAPOLIS — With preparations for the 2026 state and federal elections underway, Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales announces key 2026 Election dates and the availability of important information for candidates and voters.
“As a naturalized U.S. citizen, I deeply value the right to vote and the responsibility that comes with safeguarding our elections. Hoosiers deserve clear information about when and how to vote. Our office is committed to ensuring that every eligible voter has the resources they need to make informed decisions,” said Morales.
Listed below are key dates for the upcoming 2026 election cycle:
2026 Primary Election
Primary election day will be Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
Voters can register now through Monday, April 6, 2026. Midnight is the deadline for online registration.
Early voting (“in-person absentee voting”) will begin Tuesday, April 7, 2026, and go through Monday, May 4, 2026. Early voting dates, times, and locations vary, check with county election office for details.
Candidate filing for major party primary election candidates is Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, through Friday, Feb. 6, 2026.
2026 General Election
The General Election will be from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time, Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026.
Voter registration for the General Election takes place from Tuesday, May 19, 2026, through Monday, Oct. 5, 2026 Midnight is the deadline for online registration.
Voters can apply to vote absentee by mail through Thursday, Oct. 22, 2026. Persons can apply online or with an application form. Restrictions apply, visit: indianavoters.in.gov/.
