HUNTERTOWN — The annual Huntertown Heritage Days festival begins Wednesday, July 31, with this year’s theme, “Travel Back to Yesterday,” spotlighting the town’s historical roots. The four-day celebration concludes Saturday, Aug. 3.
A highlight of the 2024 festival is the introduction of narrated trolley tours designed to immerse visitors in Huntertown’s past. The tours will be conducted aboard a newly acquired trolley, named “Hunter,” and include 45-minute rides past historic homes, a former bank on Old Lima Road, and other landmarks on Simon, Shoaff, Bell and Hatch roads.
Passengers will receive refreshments and a commemorative booklet as part of the $25 ticket package, available online and at the festival’s information booth. Proceeds benefit the Huntertown Historical Society and the Huntertown Family Park.
“Hunter” also plays a ceremonial role in the Heritage Days parade, where it serves as the designated grand marshal. Organizers say the trolley, purchased by the Huntertown Family Park for $15,000 earlier this year, reflects the town’s history as a former stop along the Interurban electric railway system.
Much of the festival takes place at the Huntertown Family Park, 2303 Woods Road. The venue accommodates a wide array of community events, including a disc dog competition, Corn Hole Tournament, cow plop bingo, and various pie-themed contests such as a pie auction, pie tasting competition, and a pie-eating challenge.
The opening day also features a new event: an outdoor screening of “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets“ at the park’s amphitheater. The film will be shown on a 30-foot screen at dusk, accompanied by vendors offering themed merchandise.
Huntertown Heritage Days continues through the week with concerts, food vendors, fireworks, and activities celebrating the town’s heritage and community spirit.
