Syracuse Public Library — Adult Book Club To Discuss ‘The Serviceberry’
News Release
SYRACUSE — Syracuse Public Library’s adult book club will discuss “The Serviceberry” by Robin Wall Kimmerer at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 31, in the downstairs meeting room.
This nonfiction book examines how people can orient their lives around gratitude, reciprocity and community, based on the lessons of the natural world. Kimmerer, an Indigenous scientist, brings her observances from harvesting serviceberries alongside the birds. She notes the tree distributes its wealth — its abundance of sweet, juicy berries — to meet the needs of its natural community. And this distribution ensures its own survival.
Copies of this nonfiction book are available at the library. A digital e-book and audiobook may be available on the Libby app. In August, the club will read “All Quiet on the Western Front” by Erich Maria Remarque.
