FORT WAYNE — Under a new Indiana law that took effect Tuesday, July 1, bouncers now need a permit to check IDs at bars.
“Alcohol servers,” employees who work in locations serving alcohol, have historically been required to get employee permits. House Enrolled Act 1275 expands that definition to include bouncers who check identification at a bar’s entrance.
This means they must complete the same alcohol server training and obtain the necessary permits.
Though the permits have been called “bartender permits,” they are also required for waiters, waitresses, clerks and any other role associated with the service or sale of alcoholic beverages in the State of Indiana.
