CLAYPOOL — A garage and house fire which started late Thursday night, July 3, at Beaver Dam Lake, is believed to have started from a sparkler, says Burket Fire Chief Kevin McSherry.
First responders were called out to 9463 S. Amanda Drive, Claypool, before 10:30 p.m.
McSherry said the garage was “fully engulfed,” with the blaze then moving to the home. Burket had to call out assistance from Henry Township Fire Department, Mentone Fire Department and Silver Lake Fire Department.
McSherry said there were no injuries.
“The heat was hard on the firefighters,” he added, noting that made battling the fire difficult.
Firefighters got the fire under control in about an hour and a half, he said. McSherry believes the home and garage to be a total loss.
According to Beacon GIS, the property is owned by Cheston M. Hays.
