WARSAW — A $10,000 Main Street Warsaw facade grant has helped Generous Coffee with a new awning and transparent garage door.
MSW presented Generous Coffee CEO and Co-Founder Tyler Silveus and Shop Manager Erica Deuel with a check on Monday, June 30, for the company’s building at 121 W. Center St.
To receive the grant, Generous had to invest at least the same amount in the construction. The overall cost was upward of $20,000, said Silveus.
Deuel told media members that the back of the building used to be “dark and dirty.”
“It opened it up and made the corner of this intersection a little bit more inviting,” she added of what the work did for the building. “People walking in the the alleyway … now they stop, and people even come in the back door with the logo and the garage door windows to peer in and it kind of brings people in back there too.”
Generous Coffee roasts small-batch coffee for wholesalers and coffee shops, including The River Coffeehouse in Kosciusko County. Individuals may also buy coffee through a subscription.
Deuel noted “100% of the profits are given to nonprofits, so anything we sell online or in the store, all of the profits are given away.”
“We love to have a donation-paid coffee bar, so anyone in the community can come get a free cup of coffee if they want to throw a couple of bucks in to help cover the cost,” she said. “We give 100% of that to local nonprofits.”
Deuel said the local nonprofit receiving funds this quarter is Agaitas, which provides free sports camps for kids.
“We’re just happy to make space that wasn’t available downtown available, and we plan on using it for a long time,” said Silveus.
Deuel said people are welcome to attend a community block party hosted by Generous from 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 14, in Alderfer Bergen & Co.’s parking lot behind Generous’ building.
Generous Co-Founder Ben Higgins will host a talent show. Kids to adults may enter for $25 each by emailing Deuel at [email protected], with $10 from each entry benefitting the Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts of Warsaw.
There will also be free kids’ craft and youth art vendors, with Kona Ice providing treats and Generous Coffee served by The River Coffeehouse.
Deuel said the block party was to “help drive some traffic (toward Wagon Wheel) but also people who can’t be on the stage at the Wagon Wheel (can) come here and just use their talents.”
Generous is open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, with people able to buy online at www.generouscoffee.com.
