Schipper Sworn In As South Whitley Town Marshal

SOUTH WHITLEY — South Whitley City’s new Town Marshal, Chad Schipper was sworn in by Clerk-Treasurer Alyssa Knepple at the Monday, June 23 town council meeting.
Marshal Mikel Vandevender — the town’s previous marshal — will take the position of Whitko Community Schools Resource Officer.
Schipper was welcomed to South Whitley by Council President Brock Waterson.
“Mikel will be an excellent SRO and Chad will be an excellent marshal,” Waterson said.
At the same meeting, moved forward from council also approved a $2,500 tree removal estimate by the Phillips Tree Service in Pierceton for a tree behind the Moyer’s Corner Cafe.
The council also approved the closure of a road from 5 p.m. to midnight Saturday, July 5 for a fireworks show in the town’s park. A food truck will open at 7 p.m. and the fireworks will be held near the plane.
