WARSAW — A Warsaw woman was arrested for allegedly stealing merchandise from Walmart.
Cassandra Susan Steen, 31, 1710 Latta St., Warsaw, is charged with theft, a class A misdemeanor; possession of a narcotic drug and theft with a prior conviction, both level 6 felonies; and possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor.
On May 10, a Warsaw Police officer responded to a theft report at Walmart. The officer located the suspect in a traffic stop and identified the vehicle’s driver as Steen.
According to court documents, Steen said she left her cart and items in the store’s vestibule after being confronted by asset protection employees. A K9 unit alerted to illegal drugs inside the vehicle and officers found drug paraphernalia that tested positive for fentanyl.
Officers reviewed Walmart’s surveillance footage and saw Steen walk past all points of sale with a shopping cart of merchandise. An asset protection employee said she saw Steen select several clothing items, conceal them in Walmart bags, and attempt to leave the store without paying for the items. The total for the unpaid merchandise was $358.35.
Steen was previously convicted of theft in Whitley County in November 2022.
Steen has already been arrested and released on bond. She has an initial hearing at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 5, in Kosciusko Superior Court Three.
