News Release
STEUBEN COUNTY — At approximately 7:30 a.m. today, Friday, May 23, Indiana State Police Fort Wayne District Troopers were dispatched to a crash involving a Prairie Heights Community Schools bus.
The crash was on US 20 near CR 620W in rural Steuben County.
The investigation by Sgt. Matt Lazoff shows the bus, driven by Melissa M Schlosser, was east bound on US 20 when it activated its yellow flashing lights and began to slow.
As the bus slowed to stop, a white Ford ran in to the back of the bus. The Ford was driven by Gabriella K Phibbs. The rising sun was a factor in the crash.
There were students on board the bus at the time of the crash, but no one was injured.
As the school year winds down, continue to drive with caution around school buses. If there are issues outside of your control, please leave extra following distance between you and the school bus.
The Indiana State Police Department was assisted at the crash by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department, Steuben County EMS and Salem Volunteer Fire Department.
