Kaleb Michael Sumpter
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was arrested for allegedly possessing child pornography and taking multiple pictures of people while they used the bathroom.
Kaleb Michael Sumpter, 22, 2835 E. Lake Tahoe Trail, Warsaw, is charged with two counts of possession of child pornography, both level 5 felonies; and public voyeurism, a class A misdemeanor.
On April 5, a Warsaw Police officer responded to a report of a man taking pictures underneath bathroom stalls at a local business. The man was identified as Sumpter, who said he took a picture of himself and sent it to a friend.
According to court documents, the business’s manager said he saw Sumpter put his phone on the ground, pointing the camera toward where a customer was in the next bathroom stall. The manager took a picture of Sumpter pointing his phone at the customer.
On April 7, officers obtained a search warrant for Sumpter’s cellphone. Officers found multiple videos and photographs of men using the business’s bathroom. Law enforcement also discovered an image of a partially naked child.
A total of 361 images were taken by Sumpter in the business’s bathroom while the victims were unaware.
Over 1,000 videos appearing to be child pornography were also located on Sumpter’s phone.
In an interview on May 4, Sumpter admitted to recording people as they used the business’s bathroom. He also said he “unsuspectingly received” child pornography through Discord, a social media app. Sumpter told police he only viewed a few of the videos and did not know how to delete the content.
Sumpter has already been arrested and released on bond. He has a pretrial conference at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, May 29, in Kosciusko Superior Court One.
