NORTH WEBSTER — Metcalf, Payne and Bell is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year.

The business was started in 1955 by Phil Payne and Bill Metcalf. Metcalf and Payne built a reliable plumbing and HVAC residential services business for decades with a loyal customer base. In 1995, Wes and Ann Bell purchased the company and renamed the company to Metcalf, Payne and Bell.

Metcalf, Payne and Bell is a plumbing, heating, and air conditioning company located in North Webster. It offers services including sales, service and installation. Currently, it serves the Kosciusko County area, mainly concentrated in the northern lakes region and Warsaw.

President Tyler Bell said its online reviews are a true testimony to its longevity and success.

One reviewer recently stated, “We’ve used Metcalf Payne and Bell plumbing several times (13 years), and we can’t say enough about how satisfied we are with their service. Every service person is very knowledgeable and friendly. Why use anyone else?”

Many of their customers have used their services for decades, even generations.

Bell said he also attributes its success to hiring high-character, well-trained employees who care deeply about taking care of customers.

“Other than new hires due to growth, some of our employees have been with us for decades,” said Bell.

One employee, Harold Higgenbotham, just retired after 26 years with the company.

“We’ve been focused on taking care of our employees, so they can develop relationships with customers, and a deep understanding of their trade that comes with decades of experience,” Bell stated.
