Area Accident Reports
Kosciusko County
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office investigated the following accidents:
- 2:28 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, South CR 600E, and East CR 900S, Claypool. Driver: Nyia J. Thompson, 16, South Indiana Street, Warsaw. Thompson’s vehicle crossed the railroad tracks at too fast a speed causing the vehicle to ramp the tracks and landing back on the roadway hard. Thompson lost control of the vehicle, which went off the roadway. A passenger, Brennon W. Smith, 16, Tippecanoe Drive, Warsaw, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle through an open window. He complained of pain to his entire body. He was flown to a Fort Wayne Hospital. Damage up to $5,000.
- 6:31 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, North SR 15 and CR 400N, Warsaw. Driver: Erik G. Toth, 51, South Seventh Street, Goshen. Toth’s vehicle hit a deer. Damage up to $5,000.
- 6 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, SR 15 and South Hill Lake Road, Claypool. Driver: Ranea A. Pontius, 37, 17th Road, Argos. Pontius’ vehicle hit a deer. Damage up to $5,000.
- 3:57 p.m. Saturday, May 10, North Fox Farm Road and North CR 150W, Warsaw. Drivers: Shana N. Niccum, 26, Hartzler Street, Warsaw; and Michael F. Wilson, 42, East CR 250S, Warsaw. Niccum turned left in front of Wilson at the intersection, causing a collision. Niccum suffered an abrasion to the chest. Wilson complained of pain to the shoulder. A passenger in Niccum’s vehicle Felix Delgado, 5, Hartzler Street, Warsaw, complained of pain to the shoulder. Damage up to $25,000.
- 7:13 p.m., Monday, May 5, West CR 900N and North CR 425W, Milford. Drivers: Alexis Steg, 17, West Country Drive, Leesburg; and Gregory Hile, 53, North Kern Road, Syracuse. Steg failed to yield for Hile’s vehicle at an intersection, telling Officers she thought it was a four-way stop. Steg complained of pain to the shoulder, upper arm. Hile complained of pain to the knee, lower leg and foot. Both drivers were checked by paramedics at the scene. Damage up to $10,000.
Warsaw
Officers with the Warsaw Police Department investigated the following accidents:
- 11 a.m. Thursday, May 15, Commerce Drive, Warsaw. Driver: George F. Smith, 64, Greene Drive, Warsaw. Suffered a medical emergency behind the wheel, resulting in a collision with a parked vehicle. Damage up to $2,500.
- 4:38 p.m. Thursday, May 15, North Detroit Street, Warsaw. Driver: Thomas A. White, 60, North 600W, Leesburg. White backed into a parked vehicle. Damage up to $5,000.
- 6:12 p.m., Thursday, May 15, Leiter Drive, and West Center Street, Warsaw. Driver: Christopher L. Hafterson, 37, SR 13, North Manchester. Hafterson told officers a motorcycle drove him off the roadway into a utility pole after passing him on the left, cutting him off in traffic. Damage up to $25,000.
- 3:34 p.m., Wednesday, May 14, South Buffalo Street and West Prairie Street, Warsaw. Drivers: Janet M. McKeigue, 84, North Lake Street, Warsaw; and Mark Merley, 67, East Division Road, Akron. McKeigue’s foot got caught twice after attempting to brake when observing Merley’s tail lights at the traffic light, resulting in her vehicle colliding with his both times. Damage up to $5,000.
