SOUTH WHITLEY — Adeline Garr, a senior at Whitko Junior-Senior High School, is making the most of her final year through the Work-Based Learning program.
Garr has spent her mornings working at Baker’s Youth Club in Warsaw, gaining valuable real-world experience by supervising and mentoring young children.
At BYC, Garr’s role includes a variety of important responsibilities: supervising children before school, leading games and activities to encourage teamwork and engagement, serving breakfast, assisting with reading and academic support and helping with homework.
Through her work, she has developed strong leadership skills, learned how to effectively manage groups of children, and strengthened her communication abilities. These are all essential skills she plans to carry into her future career.
“Working at BYC has taught me a lot about patience, responsibility, and the importance of building positive relationships with young people,” Garr shared. “Every day is different, and it’s been a great experience helping kids start their mornings on a positive note.”
After graduation, Garr will continue her academic and athletic journey at the University of Indianapolis, where she plans to major in Sports Management and play softball at the collegiate level. She hopes to one day build a career in the sports industry, combining her love for athletics with her leadership and organizational skills.
Whitko Community Schools is proud to highlight Garr’s achievements and celebrate her bright future. Her success through Work-Based Learning shows the powerful impact of combining education with hands-on experience.
