News Release
GREENWOOD, INDIANA — Crews from Indiana American Water will begin flushing system fire hydrants in Warsaw, Winona Lake and Claypool for the annual spring cleaning of the company’s water distribution system.
Crews will be flushing system fire hydrants in Warsaw and Winona Lake starting Monday, April 21 and lasting approximately two weeks, typically during weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Flushing in Claypool is expected to take place Thursday, May 1 and Friday, May 2.
While this program is underway, customers may experience a slight drop in water pressure or temporary water discoloration. Customers should refrain from doing laundry during the time the flushing program is taking place in or near their neighborhood.
If tap water is discolored, Indiana American Water recommends allowing several cold-water faucets to run for a short time until the water runs clear. Using more than one faucet, the water can clear more quickly.
“Flushing our system helps to clean out any build-up of mineral deposits and sediment inside the pipes. These deposits can occur when there is a reduced water demand,” said Kari Britto, vice president of operations, Indiana American Water. “We also flush our hydrants to confirm they are operational and to check fire flows in our system.”
Those customers who signed up for email, text or phone calls in their Indiana American Water “MyWater” account will be notified when flushing is scheduled in their area. Customers who have questions about hydrant flushing may call the Customer Service Center at (800) 492-8373. For more information, visit amwater.com/inaw.
