Preston James Hunter, 21, 322 N. Main St., Columbia City, is charged with possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor; possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor; and possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor.
On March 12, Columbia City Police officers received a report about a child possessing marijuana products at a local school. The child said they retrieved the items from Hunter’s bag and brought them to school to impress their friends, but had never used THC products.
The child also told police Hunter brought the items from a Michigan dispensary to the Mallanes’ residence. Officers received a warrant to search the home, and found Hunter’s bag. Ian told police Hunter would come over to the house sometimes.
Hunter admitted the items the child brought to school belonged to him. He said the Mallanes asked him to go up to Michigan and purchase marijuana products for them.
In an interview on March 18, Ian said he knew there was marijuana inside the bag and kept it upstairs to hide it from the child.
Jolenna said she knew there were marijuana products inside the bag as well.
All three defendants have already been arrested and released on bond.
