WARSAW — A second Kosciusko County theft case has been filed against a Michigan woman after she allegedly stole $6,000 while acting as a third party in the sale of a horse.
Kendi Jo Kennedy, 32, Allegan, Mich., is charged with theft where the value of property is between $750 and $50,000, a level 6 felony.
On Nov. 30, 2024, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy spoke with a woman about the theft of proceeds from the sale of a horse. The woman said she took a horse she had for sale to Kennedy and met her in Michigan.
According to court documents, the woman said the horse was to be sold for $6,000, with the woman receiving $5,350 and Kennedy receiving $650. The horse was sold on Sept. 21, 2024, and the woman had not received money from the sale as of November 2024.
The woman said Kennedy initially sent her a check that did not clear the bank. Then, Kennedy said she would send the woman a certified check, which she never received. Kennedy also allegedly said she was attempting to use Venmo and PayPal, but was experiencing issues with both platforms.
The woman also told law enforcement of another occasion where she was supposed to meet Kennedy at a location in Elkhart County. Kennedy claimed her vehicle broke down and that she was with police, but could not provide her location to the woman.
When the woman and her parents checked with law enforcement, they were advised there was no record of a call for assistance from Kennedy.
Kennedy later forwarded another check to the woman through a mutual acquaintance. That check also did not clear the bank.
As of March 2025, Kennedy had not provided the woman with proceeds from the sale of the horse.
Kennedy has already been arrested and released on bond.
A separate Kosciusko County theft case was filed against Kennedy in mid-February 2025. In that case, it’s alleged Kennedy stole $13,000 while also acting as a third party in the sale of a horse.
