UPDATE: Dog Dies In Syracuse House Fire

SYRACUSE — A dog died in a Syracuse house fire early Sunday morning.
According to a press release from Turkey Creek Fire Territory, firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire at 4:38 a.m. Sunday, March 16, at 504 S. Manor Drive.
Upon arrival, fire and smoke was noted from the attached garage and the structure’s front door. At the scene, the structure’s occupant said a dog was still inside the building. Two dogs were in the structure at the time of the fire, one of which exited the building and later returned. The second dog died as a result of the fire.
The fire was brought under control and extinguished around 6:30 a.m. There was damage to a vehicle parked in the driveway and to an adjacent structure at 506 S. Manor Drive as a result of the fire. Firefighters remained on scene to search for any remaining extension of the fire in the structure and cleared the scene at 11:10 a.m.
There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters as a result of the fire.
Property loss is estimated at $110,000.
Assisting at the scene were Tippecanoe Township Fire Territory, Milford Fire Department, Benton Township Fire Department, Syracuse Police Department, Indiana Department of Homeland Security, Syracuse Water Department, and the American Red Cross.
The structure is owned by Joe D. Higdon. The fire’s cause remains under investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
