News Release
FORT WAYNE — The Embassy Theatre has announced open enrollment for its summer SCORE! program. Students who are entering seventh, eighth or ninth grades in fall the 2025 are eligible to apply. The workshop will take place 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, July 7-Saturday, July 19
Entering year 13 of operation, this two-week, mentor-led devised theater intensive immerses students in all elements of theater, culminating in a public performance on the legendary Embassy stage on Saturday, July 19.
What Do Enrollees Experience In SCORE?
• Devise, create and produce an original presentation on the stage of the historic Embassy Theatre through a peer-driven collaborative approach.
• Generate and harness the energy and discipline needed to create original pieces.
• Give life and voice to a story that has meaning in their own lives — devising is creating on one’s feet.
• Learn the elements of the art form including playwriting, composition, movement, drama, music, visual arts and technical arts with the help of industry professionals.
• Meet and collaborate with peers who have common interests.
Katie Lauck speaks to the impact of the summer program: “SCORE! started changing my life when I signed up for camp as a middle schooler and had my first encounter with devised theater, which I eventually went on to get a degree in. During that degree program, it changed my life again when it gave me my first experience as an arts educator by taking me on as an intern and eventually a full-blown mentor.”
This experience pointed her in a career direction as well. “I now teach middle schoolers year-round both as a part of SCORE! and with a non-profit called ArtistYear that boosts arts education in Title I schools and I know none of this would have happened had I not signed up as a student all those years ago. I have come back to SCORE! and the Embassy again and again throughout my life because it’s been a place of incomparable community and artistic experience and I will be forever grateful for the life SCORE! has given me,” Lauck said.
The registration fee is $350 and the deadline is Friday, June 13. Scholarships are available on our website. Enrollment is limited to only 22 students; spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
