ELKHART — A man has been arrested in Elkhart County for allegedly using a camera to record a child while they were showering.
Kacey J. Lash, 39, 116 N. Morton St., Kendallville, is charged with child exploitation, a level 5 felony; and voyeurism, a level 6 felony.
In January 2024, a child reported Lash recorded them while they were showering. During an interview in February 2024, the child said they found cameras installed by Lash that were angled toward their room.
According to court documents, the child also said Lash watched pornography that had the word “teen” in the title. In July 2023, the child said Lash told them he put a camera in the bathroom’s shower in order to keep an eye on another child in the home.
Lash told the victim he accidentally recorded them taking a shower and had watched the video.
A witness was interviewed, and said Lash told her he placed cameras in the home. She also said porn was “a huge thing” for Lash and that he watched videos appearing to depict teenagers.
During an interview in June 2024, Lash said he installed a light bulb camera into a lamp that saw into the shower. He told police he set up the camera to keep an eye on another child in the home, alleging he believed the child was trying to drown household pets.
He said the camera had recorded the victim while they were showering, and that he watched the video, but not for very long.
Upon further investigation, police determined the camera near the shower began recording after Lash remoted into it.
Lash has already been arrested and released on bond.
