GREENE COUNTY — The bodies of two men, in two separate incidents, have recently been recovered in Greene County.
In the first, the body of Justin Sprang was recovered by conservation officer divers Saturday, Feb. 22 in Beaver Dam Lake.
The DNR said in a statement Sprang and another man fell through the ice around Hillenbrand Fish and Wildlife Area. Cordell Foster, the other man, was rescued by a Jasonville police officer with a rope throw bag.
It was said Sprang did not resurface after falling through lake ice.
In the second incident, the DNR reported an elderly man passed away after falling through ice at a private lake, also in Greene County.
Responders recovered Louis White of Bloomfield’s body hours after getting reports of footprints leading to a hole in the lake’s ice.
Using an unmanned aerial vehicle, Eastern Greene Fire Territory located a cell phone atop the ice, according to a social media post.
“This morning, we responded to a welfare check involving a person potentially submerged in the water. Upon arrival, units deployed a drone to search the area where a hole was visible in the ice. The drone uncovered evidence suggesting the person remained in the water,” reads a post on the fire territory’s Facebook page.
DNR statements said White’s body was found in 14 feet of water.
The DNR says both incidents are under investigation.
