KENDALLVILLE — Cookies decorated with President Donald Trump’s likeness have been all the rage at Lisa Stuckey’s WhatchamaCAKES!, a Kendallville bakery. Its owner denies any political affiliation for her and her wares, explaining they are simply cookies.
The cookies have attracted both praise and condemnation, with detractors calling Stuckey a “rapist lover” and someone who “hates gays” on social media. Supporters have praised the cookies, with some rallying around what they feel is a pro-republican stance.
Stuckey denies any wrongdoing, saying her affiliation is irrelevant to her wares and that she is simply a baker selling a baked good.
Regardless, the cookies have become her bakery’s hot item, with over 2,000 sold so far and nearly 50 sold every day. WhatchamaCAKES! has gotten orders for the cookies as far as Arizona and Florida. U.S. Rep. Marlin Stutzman even posted on social media site X that his staff delivered some of the cookies to the White House.
The cookies were originally a seasonal idea by Stuckey. The baker often sold cookies correlating with holidays or special events, and she happened to own a printer that allowed detailed images to be placed on cookies. The business used it for company logos, pets and people’s faces.
On Jan. 21, Stuckey made three cookies with Trump’s face on it. Thinking they wouldn’t sell, she made a post advertising the cookies on social media. The post quickly blew up, with the cookies selling out and Stuckey making more. After drawing much attention — and criticism — Stuckey took down the post and put up another the next day, explaining she hadn’t meant to offend anyone.
The second post drew even more attention and support, with WhatchamaCAKES! receiving a rush of Trump cookie orders.
Since then, Stuckey has received media interviews and continues to sell the Trump cookies. The large amount of orders means Stuckey bakes until midnight to fill them all.
She also wears a shirt, gifted by a friend, that reads “Inauguration Day 2025” on the back. And on the front: “It’s just a cookie.”
