INDIANAPOLIS — Pacers Sports & Entertainment plans to begin construction this summer on a $78 million performance center for Indiana Fever in downtown Indianapolis.
The complex, which will be part of the PS&E campus, is expected to be open before the 2027 WNBA season.
“We are excited to partner with Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett to identify the perfect location for the Indiana Fever Sports Performance Center,” PS&E owner Herb Simon said. “The city of Indianapolis continues to be a tremendous partner as we elevate our team, players and community.”
The center is being designed to accommodate athletes’ full range of needs, including conditioning, recovery and mental health. It will be 108,000 square feet and three floors, with two naturally-lit courts, strength and conditioning equipment, a yoga area, hydration station and full-service kitchen. Other facilities include a spa, private outdoor courtyard, a hair and nail salon and a childcare space.
“With the goal of Indianapolis becoming the epicenter of women’s sports, this world-class sports performance center will be the preeminent place for players to train, recover and push their boundaries,” PS&E CEO Mel Raines said.
For fans, Raines said the center will offer a Fever team store with unique merchandise opportunities.
The team’s current practice court and training area, which was renovated in 2020, is located within the Gainbridge Fieldhouse. It is considered one of the best facilities in the WNBA.
An intergovernmental land transfer between the City of Indianapolis and the Capital Improvement Board of Marion County will dedicate the land at the corner of Alabama and Maryland streets, formerly the west half of Marion County Jail, to the facility. Construction will be handled by an associate of PS&E, which will enter into an operating agreement with the board. The Board will receive the facility at conclusion of the agreement’s term.
“Last year, we experienced an unprecedented boom in interest and attention on women’s sports around the world, led in large part by our very own Indiana Fever,” Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett said. “Indianapolis is proud to see this significant investment from Pacers Sports & Entertainment drive further momentum in women’s basketball in our community and continue to elevate our status as a major league sports city.”
The architect of the project is Populous, a global design firm that previously designed Butler University Esports Park and Gainbridge Fieldhouse, both in Indianapolis.
The Indiana Fever will start the 2025 WNBA basketball season Saturday, May 17 against Chicago Sky. For tickets, visit Indiana Fever’s website. To receive updates about tickets, events and more, subscribe to Indiana Fever’s Newsletter.
