AARP Indiana To Host Virtual Event On Property Taxes
News Release
INDIANAPOLIS — Property taxes are critical to the well-being of Indiana communities, but older Hoosiers cannot always afford them. This may be especially true when they are experiencing property tax increases on top of other rising monthly expenses such as utilities, groceries and health care.
To better understand how increasing property taxes impact older homeowners in Indiana, AARP commissioned a poll of Indiana voters aged 50-plus who own a home in the state.
Some of the results will be highlighted during an upcoming virtual discussion titled “Hoosier Property Taxes: Where We’ve Been & Where We’re Going” at 10 a.m. EST Wednesday, Jan. 22. During the event, experts and state leaders will also discuss how property taxes in Indiana got to their current point and what actions the Indiana General Assembly may take.
Those taking part in the discussion will be AARP Indiana; Larry DeBoer, emeritus professor, agricultural economics, Purdue University; Ryan Hoff, director of government relations and general counsel, Indiana Association of Indiana Counties; and state Sen. Travis Holdman, chairman, Senate Tax and Fiscal Policy Committee.
