FORT WAYNE — The Better Business Bureau Serving Northern Indiana is pleased to announce that Jan Diaz has officially assumed the role of CEO, effective Jan. 1, following the retirement of Rick Walz. Walz retired on Dec. 31, 2024, after ten years of dedicated service to BBB, including the last three years as President and CEO.

During his tenure, Walz led BBB Serving Northern Indiana through significant milestones, including expanding community programs, advancing digital resources, and fostering partnerships to build trust in the marketplace. His leadership was instrumental in modernizing the organization, implementing a hybrid work model, and launching innovative initiatives like the “Build a Better Business Conference” in partnership with S.C.O.R.E., which combined education, networking, and recognition to businesses, charities and individuals through the Torch Awards for Ethics.

Before joining BBB staff in 2017, Walz served on the BBB Board of Directors for 15 years, including a term as Board Chair. He brought decades of business development and leadership experience to the organization, drawing from a successful career in the hardware, building materials and HVAC industries. Throughout his time with BBB, Walz was steadfast in his commitment to fostering trust, integrity, and community growth, leaving a legacy of impactful leadership. “It was an honor to lead this organization and serve the businesses and consumers of Northern Indiana,” Walz said prior to his retirement. “I’m confident that Jan Diaz will continue to carry forward BBB’s mission and lead with integrity and vision.”

Diaz, who joined BBB as Vice President and Chief Operations Officer in 2022 after serving on its Board of Directors since 2017, brings a wealth of experience and expertise. Her extensive background spans the public, private, and social sectors, including a notable tenure in higher education. During her time at BBB, Diaz has been instrumental in advancing organizational excellence, optimizing operations, and driving strategic initiatives that have strengthened BBB’s impact in the 23-county region it serves.
