Kissling, Beckham Among Scholarship Winners

WARSAW – Warsaw Community High School athletics is proud to announce the 2020-21 “We Believe In You” scholarship recipients.
The scholarships, courtesy Karin Steffensmeier and the Warsaw concessions advisory, are from the Adult Booster Club Senior Scholarship program. A portion of the concession money raised from the school year is given in the form of college scholarships to 10 male and 10 female athletes.
The top scholarship for each male and female is $1,000, which were given to Jacob Kissling and Adree Beckham.
The remaining four each are in the amount of $500, given to Lilly Boston, Audrey Grimm, Elizabeth Stone, Kendall Wayne, Aaron Greene, Alex Light, Alejandro Murillo and Michael Ray.
The purpose of the WCHS senior “We Believe in You” athletic scholarship is to recognize varsity athletes who have excelled in enriching their teams, school and community during their career at WCHS. The selection committee, which consisted of athletic director Matt Binkerd, Steffensmeier, support staff, an administrator and the physical education department chair.
To be eligible for the scholarship, the senior athlete must carry at least a 2.5 GPA, and earn consideration through, but limited to, earned letters in their respective sports, garnered awards, not have athletic code violations and be active outside athletics which ‘enrich their school and community’.
Binkerd noted the department would like to raise the award amounts for 2021-22 with the hopes of expanded concession sales as sporting events become closer to full capacity.
“We are thankful and excited to be able to award over $30,000 to participating teams and clubs who provided volunteers to work the concessions at home events in this fundraising opportunity for the 2020-21 school year,” said Binkerd. “I would also like to add a big thank you to Karin for her time and leadership with our new “Concessions Advisor” position as she has been incredible! We plan to provide her more help next year with having someone oversee all of the ordering, inventory, delivery and cleaning of the multiple concession stands on campus.”
