Tippecanoe Valley Baseball 6, Southwood 3
Valley not only played its toughest game of the year on paper, it played its toughest game emotionally Wednesday at home. And then picked up its biggest win of the campaign in knocking off the Class 1-A No. 1 Knights.
Annikan Pettit had three hits and an RBI, and Hunter Craft added two hits, two stolen bases and a run scored.
The game was scoreless going into the fifth, where Southwood (18-4, 8-1 TRC) scratched across a run, but Valley responded with five runs to take command.
Owen Kirchenstien allowed just one run in five innings, striking out eight Knights. DJ Estep navigated the final two innings for Valley (12-9, 6-3 TRC), which earned their second top-ten win of the season.
Warsaw Baseball 13, Mishawaka 10
Lukas Maier had quite a night for the Tigers in a NLC win at home.
Maier, hitting nine in the order, had three hits and drove in four. Maier also scored a pair of runs and was a double short of the cycle. Joey Springer, Aaron Greene, Sam Justice and Drew McCleary all had two hits each, Springer and McCleary each plating three runs.
Alex Light gutted out 101 relief pitches to get the win for the Tigers (11-12, 8-6 NLC), which closed out the NLC season winners of its last four contests.
Wawasee Baseball 11, Concord 2
Grant Brooks tossed a gem as Wawasee closed out the NLC slate with a win.
Brooks allowed two unearned runs on two hits, one walk and struck out nine. At the plate, Brooks produced two hits and two walks and scored a pair of runs.
Lucas Ringler had a hit and three runs scored and Jacob Meek had a hit, walk, run scored and an RBI.
Wawasee (14-11, 8-6 NLC) finishes in a tie for third with Warsaw in the final conference standings.
Tippecanoe Valley Softball 16, Southwood 7
Valley won its second straight at home with a drubbing of its Three Rivers Conference rivals.
Brittney Benn and Corinna Stiles both had four hits to lead the Vikings (12-13, 4-5 TRC), Benn driving in four and scoring three, and Stiles scoring four and driving in two. Abby Bowers added her second triple in as many games and scored a pair of runs.
Macy Kirchenstien and Stiles combined to strike out six, Stiles working two innings of scoreless relief.
Wawasee Softball 11, Concord 8
The Lady Warriors were up against the wall before putting on quite a rally to stun the Minutemen in Dunlap.
Down 8-0 in the sixth, Wawasee (4-20-1, 3-11 Northern Lakes Conference) got three runs back, then stacked up three walks and six hits, the two big blows a two-run, go-ahead single by Jaci Worrell followed by a two-run triple by Haylee Allen. Concord would bring the tying run to the plate in the seventh, but Allen got a lineup to cap the Warrior win.
Allen also added an RBI double to start the scoring in the seventh, and in the circle, struck out eight and allowed just two earned runs. Kiaundra Olson added two hits and two runs scored.
Allie Moss was 4-for-5 with four RBI for the Minutemen.
Goshen Softball 10, NorthWood 5
Steady pressure from Goshen afforded the RedHawks a win in a slugfest at Callander.
Olivia Koshmider paced Goshen with four hits, four runs scored and two RBI, Liz Ramirez drove in two and Tyra Marcum had two hits and three stolen bases.
NorthWood (7-15, 5-8 NLC) had 11 hits, four from Morgan Jenkins, who was a triple short of the cycle. Jenkins is mashing .712 in 13 league games. Sydney King added two hits and an RBI and Macy Lengacher tripled for the Panthers.
