Fort Wayne Grief Center Offers Yoga, Death Cafe, More
News Release
FORT WAYNE — Stillwater Hospice will be offering a number of new programs in 2025 through the Peggy F. Murphy Community Grief Center.
The following programs are free, except for the Grief Garden.
Yoga for Respite & Restoration will be offered from 5:30-6:20 p.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 8 and Jan. 22. The 50-minute practice will offer gentle movements, meditation and breathing exercises. Participants may sit on the floor or in a chair, and no experience is necessary. Registration is needed by Monday, Jan. 6 or Jan. 20.
The Death Cafe will run from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11. This is a group-directed discussion on death and dying over coffee or tea and baked goods. There is no agenda, and it is not a grief support group. Registration is needed by Wednesday, Jan. 8, and can be done online.
Soma Dance will be offered Thursday, Jan. 16. The practice will help participants “connect” with their bodies and move to music. Participants will be given cues, practices and tools. Registration is required by Friday, Jan. 10.
A Grief Hike will be offered Friday, Jan. 17, in cooperation with Acres Land Trust at the Tom and Jane Dustin Nature Preserve. Movement in nature can help with processing emotions and fostering a sense of calm. Space is limited to 10 participants. Registration is required by Monday, Jan. 13.
The Grief Garden is a special event to be held Sunday, Jan. 19, in collaboration with Honey Plant. Participants can cultivate their own grief garden, learn about caring for their houseplant and create a “grief scape” around the potted plant. There is a $10 fee to cover the costs of plant, soil and container. Registration is required by Friday, Jan. 10.
A grief book club meeting is planned for Monday, Feb. 3, at Swizzle Market. February’s book selection to be discussed is “Bearing the Unbearable” by Joanne Cacciatore. Registration is required by Wednesday, Jan. 29.
