News Release
INDIANAPOLIS — State Senator Ryan Mishler and State Reps. David Abbott and Craig Snow recently received committee assignments at the Statehouse.
Mishler writes in a press release that committees are the first stop for a bill during the legislative process. In committees, members of the public, industry experts and lawmakers all have the opportunity to properly discuss and thoroughly examine public policy proposals before they move to the full Senate for further consideration.
During the upcoming session for the 124th Indiana General Assembly, Mishler, serving Senate District 9, will serve as chair of the Senate Committee on Appropriations and as a member of the Senate Committee on Tax and Fiscal Policy.
House standing committee appointments are made by the Indiana House Speaker biennially after the November election and are in effect for the duration of members’ two-year terms.
Abbott, who represents House District 18, which includes portions of Kosciusko, Elkhart, Noble and Whitley counties, was appointed as vice chair of the House Government and Regulatory Reform Committee, and will serve as a member of the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Employment, Labor and Pensions Committee.
“Government operations should prioritize serving the public and promoting transparency,” Abbott said. “As vice chair, I will continue working to eliminate regulatory obstacles and advocate for Hoosiers.”
Snow, who represents House District 22, which includes portions of Kosciusko and Wabash counties, was appointed as vice chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, and will serve as a member of the House Insurance Committee. Snow said committees are responsible for vetting bills, including hearing public testimony and considering amendments.
“As the new vice chair of the Ways and Means Committee, we must be sensible about how we allocate the state’s money,” Snow said. “I will use my previous experience as a member of the committee to review upcoming legislation and work to improve the lives of Hoosiers.”
House lawmakers are scheduled to convene at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 8 for the first day of the 2025 legislative session.
