LAPAZ — ​​The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death of an 8-month-old female.

At approximately 11:27 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11,​ the Marshall County Central Dispatch received a 911 call. ​The initial report was that an 8-month-old female was not breathing at a residence in the Creekside Mobile Home Park at 2662 Michigan Road,​ located ​just south of Lapaz. ​

Upon first responders arriving at the scene,​ aid was rendered to the child. ​The child was transported by ambulance to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth for further care,​ but ultimately she ​was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

​​​​​​​​Officers responded to the residence involved ​and later to the hospital to investigate the incident. ​The investigation is ongoing,​ but the initial assessment is that the death of the child was accidental.

​Further investigation of the incident,​ including an autopsy are pending at this time. ​A ​final report will be submitted to the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration ​at the conclusion of the investigation. ​​
