WARSAW — A Mentone man will serve a six-year sentence locally for drug possession.
Mark Andrew Vining, 35, 5645 S. 1000W, Mentone, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, a level 4 felony; and operating a vehicle with a schedule I or II controlled substance in the body, a class C misdemeanor. Two additional criminal charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
Vining was sentenced in Kosciusko Circuit Court on Monday, Dec. 2.
For meth possession, Kosciusko Circuit Court Judge Michael Reed sentenced Vining to six years in the Kosciusko County Jail, with one year executed and five years suspended on probation. Reed showed no objection to Vining serving the executed portion through work release or community corrections.
Vining also received a two-month KCJ sentence for operating with a controlled substance in the body. This sentence will be served at the same time as the meth possession charge.
Both charges will be served back-to-back to another criminal case Vining has.
On March 15, law enforcement stopped Vining for driving in a stolen vehicle. While searching the vehicle, officers found a cigarette package containing 14.8 grams of meth.
A drug recognition analysis performed on Vining showed he was impaired under a stimulant. Vining admitted to recently using meth. A Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office detective said he did not believe Vining could safely operate a vehicle in his condition.
