Deputy Involved In Fatal Rochester Shooting Identified

ROCHESTER — The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office has identified the deputy involved in a fatal Rochester shooting on Saturday, Nov. 23.
Senior Deputy Ryan J. Haney discharged his firearm on Nov. 23 while responding to a domestic disturbance in the 800 block of Monroe Street in Rochester. Haney is a seven-year veteran with FCSO.
A press release from Indiana State Police states the domestic disturbance involved a firearm. When officers arrived at the scene, Steven T. Harding, 37, Rochester, was located inside, armed with a firearm and pointing it in Haney’s direction.
Haney and a Rochester Police officer discharged their duty weapons at least once, striking Harding. Despite life-saving measures, Harding was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Haney and the other officer were uninjured and placed on administrative leave pending the investigation’s outcome. This is standard operating procedure for both RPD and FCSO.
No additional information will be forthcoming from FCSO as ISP continues their investigation.
