NORTH WEBSTER — A Quilts of Valor ceremony was conducted on Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11, at the American Legion in North Webster.
Fourteen veterans were honored for their service and each received a handmade quilt made by the Lakeland Quilt Club members.
The veterans who were honored are: Phil Moore, Air Force; Catherine Bowers, Air Force; Logan Bowers, Navy; Kim Pulsipher, Army; Dave Currie, Army; Kevin Enyeart, Army; James “NRA” Prough, Marines; Roger Cormican, Army; Dave Moser, Marines; Stan Smith, Army; Dee Jay Harris, Army; Denny Messmore, Air Force; Douglas Kleinknight, Army; and Gene Myers, Army.
In addition to a quilt, each veteran received a certificate.
Lana Dowell, a volunteer with the Indiana Quilts of Valor Foundation, said this is the seventh presentation the group has made at the American Legion, North Webster.
Several members of the Lakeland Quilt Club were on hand to show the quilts they made before they were presented to the veterans.
A Quilt of Valor is a quality, handmade quilt that is machine or hand quilted. It is awarded to a service member or veteran who has been touched by war.
The Quilts of Valor Foundation, located in Iowa, began in 2003 with a dream when founder Catherine Roberts’ son, Nat, was deployed to Iraq.
