Saturday morning crash seriously injuries West Lafayette man

FULTON — At approximately 10:20 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, Fulton County dispatch received a report regarding a two-vehicle accident with injuries that occurred in the 7000 block South SR 25.
Initial investigation by Deputy Jeryl Salientes shows that Gordon Heeter, 44, West Lafayette, was driving a 2016 Toyota Tacoma north bound on State Road 25 and James Rush, 59, Logansport, was driving a 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan also north bound on State Road 25 behind Heeter. Heeter was actively slowing down while entering the Town of Fulton, for an unknown reason Rush did not slow down striking the rear end of the Tacoma which forced the truck into a tree.
Heeter was transported from the scene via medical helicopter. Rush refused medical attention at the scene.
Both drivers were wearing their seatbelt at the time of the accident. Speed is believed to be a contributing factor to this accident. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a contributing factor.
This is an ongoing investigation by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office. The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Liberty Township Fire, Parkview EMS, Samaritan Medical Transport and the Rochester City Police Department.
