Marty Wood

Martin Alexander “Marty” Wood, of Warsaw, passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 11, 2024, at Stillwater Hospice Home in Fort Wayne at the age of 59.

He was born on July 23, 1965, to Diane Lee (Alexander) Pifer and Ray Louis Butz in Indianapolis. Marty grew up in Pierceton and was a 1983 graduate of Whitko High School in South Whitley, where he enjoyed playing the trumpet in the band. He worked at Explorer Van in Warsaw for several years. Marty was an accomplished guitarist, and he enjoyed playing with several local bands over the years. He had a unique sense of humor, and his family will always remember many of his “Martyisms.”

He will be lovingly remembered by his adoptive father, Charles (Joyce) Wood, Warsaw; brother, Karl Wood, Winona Lake; sister, Raeann Rice, Warsaw; stepbrother, Greg (Angela Wadkins) Wood, Cromwell; and stepsisters, Melanie (Mike) Easter, Melissa (Patrick) Sommer and Michelle (Ken) Klingerman, all of Warsaw. Marty also leaves behind two nieces, four nephews and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

Friends and family are invited to visit from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Nov. 15, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw. Following visitation, Marty’s life will be celebrated with a graveside service at Nolt Cemetery in Columbia City.
