Brenda Gervais — UPDATED
Brenda Gervais, 66, passed away surrounded by the love of her family on Saturday morning, Nov. 2, 2024, at Cedar Creek Nursing Home in Warsaw.
Brenda was born on Aug. 14, 1958, in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada.
She would come to Indiana and attend Ivy Tech College to become a certified nursing assistant. Brenda, with the heart to serve people and bring them happiness, would join the staff at Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice, now Stillwater Hospice, in Warsaw more than 25 years ago. She knew every life was worth celebrating and did all she could for those in her care on hospice.
Brenda was always happy, silly and knew how to make anyone smile. She loved to laugh and give hugs, and when she couldn’t give you a physical hug, she drew a “hand hug” in your special note. She taught those around her to not take life too seriously and live every day to the fullest.
She was a devout member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warsaw. Brenda loved to sing, anytime and anywhere. She enjoyed listening to live music, dancing, doing the Hula-hoop, all while sipping on a water with extra lemon, no ice. Brenda walked, and walked. You could never slow her down. She was also always down for some chips and salsa with a lime margarita surrounded by amazing conversations at Hacienda.
Brenda loved her family and treasured her grandchildren. Since they were spread out in the states, she always made time to call them or FaceTime them to see how they were doing. And on every holiday and birthday, you got sung a whole version of a song she made up for you, or she would text her whole song to you if she couldn’t reach you. She was adored so much.
She is survived by her children, Paul Westberg, Sue (Amanda) Westberg, Patrick (Andrea) Westberg, Michelle Poe, Louis (Mandy) Gervais and Janette (Scot) Gervais; four grandchildren, Jacob, Noah, Lucy and Rowan; and siblings, Larry Simpson, Linda Dickerson, Wanda Simpson, Kathy Bowers, Jeff Guy, Chet (Laurie) Betts and Randy Matson.
Brenda was preceded in death by her siblings, Doug Betts, Richard Simpson and Wendy Coulstring.
A Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A visitation will be held for one hour prior, from 10 a.m. until the start of Mass in the church.
The family thanks Gentiva Hospice for the loving care shown to their mother. She lived her life for those in hospice, and Brenda was honored to have them care for her.
