Sgt. Sarah Emily Roque
SGT Sarah Emily Roque was born on Oct. 12, 2001, 2001 to Ana Dolores Roque and Jorge Roque in Lubbock, Texas. She graduated from West Noble High school in 2020.
SGT Roque enlisted into the U.S. Army on June 30, 2020 to become a combat engineer, beginning her career with One Station Unit Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo, and entering her aspired profession. Her first unit of assignment was the 50TH Multirole Bridge Company, 5TH Engineer Battalion, 36TH Engineer Brigade, located at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. She served in the unit from Oct. 20, 2020 to Aug. 21, 2022 as a bridge crewmember and boat operator. She volunteered for a tour of duty as a boat operator with 74TH Multirole Bridge Company in Poland. SGT Roque re-enlisted for the opportunity to become a mine detection dog handler and served as a team leader in the 94TH Engineer Detachment, Engineer Mine Dog Detachment from Aug. 22, 2022 ,until her passing, Oct. 20, 2024.
Her awards consist of the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon.
SGT Sarah Emily Roque is survived by her mother Ana Roque, her father Jorge Roque, her three brothers Jorge Roque, Jr., Isaias Roque, Emilio Roque, her grandmother Ana Emilia Lopez, and her Mine Detection Dog Partner Zorro.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 300 Ravine Park Drive, Ligonier. Father Ryan Tomassi will officiate. Burial will take place at Oak Park Cemetery in Ligonier where full military rites were rendered.
An all night visitation began at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov.r 1, and continued until 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South, Ligonier.
