Paul D. Freed — UPDATED
Paul Dean Freed, a resident of Grace Village Retirement Community in Winona Lake, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024, at Grace Village Health Care at the age of 78.
He was born on Nov. 12, 1945, in Chicago, to Kathryn (Metzger) Freed Whistler and Leonard Freed. Paul graduated from high school in 1964 and served in the Army National Guard. He attended Indiana University for a few years and was a loyal hardworking employee at R.R. Donnelley & Sons in Warsaw for 31 years until he retired.
Paul was married on Dec. 3, 1967, in Plymouth, to the love of his life, Mary Ann Cripe. They enjoyed living in Warsaw and were blessed to have shared 55 years together before she passed away on Dec. 14, 2022. Paul and Mary Ann loved to travel and enjoyed spending time together. Throughout their lives, they loved the outdoors and did a lot of fishing and skiing when they were able to do so. He also loved to hunt and enjoyed spending many relaxing hours swimming in their pool. Paul attended Warsaw Community Church, where he made many long-lasting friendships with his church family. Above all he enjoyed worshiping his savior, Jesus Christ. He will be remembered fondly by those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
He leaves behind two sisters-in-law, Karen Kaufman, Goshen, and Joyce Freed, Richmond, Va.; three nephews, Michael Kaufman and Greg and Steve Freed; and five nieces, Vickie Stamps, Cindy Dance, Jill Roberts, Jayne Alexander and Laurie Zimmerman. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and his brother, Stan Freed.
Paul’s life will be celebrated with a memorial service at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, and officiated by Pastor Denny Wilson. Friends and family may visit prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
