Staff Report
PIERCETON — Two men were arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop on SR 13.
Willberg Javier Rodriguez Cordero, 36, 572 Baker St., Cromwell, is charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a class C misdemeanor; and possession of cocaine and operating a vehicle with an ACE of 0.08 or more with a prior conviction, both level 6 felonies.
Jose G. Padron, 32, Chicago, Ill., is charged with possession of cocaine, a level 6 felony.
On Sept. 7, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy was patrolling on SR 13 when he saw a vehicle travel left of center and pulled the driver over.
Rodriguez Cordero was identified as the vehicle’s driver and Padron was the front seat passenger. The deputy noticed Rodriguez Cordero was exhibiting physical signs of intoxication.
According to court documents, Rodriguez Cordero failed several field sobriety tests and tested 0.15% BrAC on a portable breath test.
A K9 unit at the scene alerted to illegal substances in the vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle, deputies found cocaine under the front passenger seat. Padron refused to speak with law enforcement and was taken into custody.
Rodriguez Cordero told deputies the cocaine did not belong to him and that he didn’t know it was in the vehicle.
Rodriguez Cordero was previously convicted of OWI in Kosciusko County in February 2022.
Rodriguez Cordero and Padron have both already been arrested.
