SILVER LAKE — Silver Lake Town Council discussed three upcoming Halloween events at a meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
From 6-7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, the Silver Lake Fire Department will give out chili and cookies. At 6:30 p.m. there is a costume contest. Prizes will be given to first and second place in three age groups as well as youngest and oldest.
From 6-7:30 p.m. on Halloween night, Thursday, Oct. 31, there will be a new trunk-or-treat event in Silver Lake at Hometown Station coffee shop on South Jefferson Street and SR 15. The Silver Lake Lions Club will be handing out goody bags.
The council thanked the Hartmans for organizing this event for the community.
Trick-or-treating hours in Silver Lake are also 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31.
The council also heard from the pastor of a new ministry in Silver Lake. Youth Pastor Scott Herring was a guest speaker who shared about Dynamic Church, in its fourth week of services, located at 979 SR 14. Herring said the church wants to “offer freedom and hope through Jesus,” and they are open to opportunities to get involved in the community.
The council agreed to put up a smaller version of Herring’s flyers.
The council held a budget hearing before the normal meeting. Tyler Coffel from Baker Tilly reviewed financial projections for the 2025 year, which will include costs such as the new community center and new sirens. The council will have a budget adoption meeting at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29.
In other business, the council:
- Approved the purchase of a new rifle and ammunition for the police department.
- Announced bagged leaves will be picked up by the street department from the end of October to the end of November.
- Provided an update that the sidewalk renovations are almost done.
- Announced that the clerk’s office will be opening late on Thursday, Oct. 17, hopefully by 10:30 a.m., due to unforeseen circumstances.
- Heard a citizen comment about a resident of Neer Drive inquiring about access to a public easement. The council and marshal expressed the public can use the easement, but they will look into contradicting information about a potential land reparceling.
The next regular Silver Lake Town Council meeting is 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Silver Lake Town Hall.
