Jeanette Marcum

Jeanette Marcum, 79, of Mentone, passed away in her home on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and six siblings, Jim Lewis, Jackie Lewis Jr., Johnny Lewis, Jerry Lewis, Janie (Lewis) Hamilton and Jesse Lewis Sr.

Born March 4, 1945, to James Jack Lewis and Pokey (Bentley) Lewis, she married Vanis Marcum in Wise, Va., on Oct. 28, 1961. The pair enjoyed a 40-year marriage before his passing in 2001.

A Mentone resident since 2006, she retired from her career as a qualified medications aide. She lived and loved to take care of everyone in her life. In her retirement, that care extended to all the stray animals of Mentone. She was lovingly known as the crazy cat lady.

She will be forever missed by her four children, Vanis Jr. (Bessie) Marcum, of Monterey, Debbie (Paul) Shepherd, of Rochester, Charolette Marcum, of Mentone, and Tammy (Brian) Rich, of Claypool; her three grandchildren, Eric, Carrie and Samantha Shepherd; seven great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and numerous loved ones.

A celebration of life will take place at a yet-to-be-announced date and time.
