HALLOWEEN TRIVIA:
Halloween is a celebration observed on Oct. 31, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows’ Day. It is the beginning of the observance of Allhallowtide, the time of the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead. Popular Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, costume parties, carving pumpkins into jack-o’-lanterns, bobbing for apples, visiting haunted houses and playing pranks.

- Oct. 28, 1989 — Janet Jackson started a four-week run at number one on the U.S. album chart with Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814. It is only one of three albums to produce seven top 10 U.S. singles, the other two being Thriller by Michael Jackson and Bruce Springsteen’s Born In The USA.
- Oct. 4, 1969 — Creedence Clearwater Revival started a four-week run at the top of the album chart with their first number one record, Green River.
- Oct. 3, 1945 — Elvis Presley’s first public performance was at the age of 10 when he sang “Old Shep” in a youth talent contest at the Mississippi-Alabama Fair and Dairy Show, in Tupelo, Miss. The contest was broadcast over WELO Radio. He placed fifth and won a prize of $5.00 in fair ride tickets.
