Staff Report
NORTH WEBSTER — An Etna Green man was arrested for allegedly battering a pregnant woman.
Cody Ray Hersha, 26, 210 S. Main St. Lot 2, Etna Green, is charged with domestic battery resulting in bodily injury to a pregnant woman, a level 5 felony; domestic battery committed in the presence of a child, a level 6 felony; and domestic battery and battery resulting in bodily injury, both class A misdemeanors.
On Sept. 7, officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, Pierceton Police Department, and North Webster Police Department responded to a fight in progress at a North Webster residence.
Officers determined Hersha was one of the people involved in the incident and learned he left the scene. According to court documents, when officers located Hersha, they noticed he smelled like alcohol. Hersha said he had two beers and made a comment about a lawyer. Officers stopped asking further questions at that time.
Law enforcement spoke with a person who witnessed the incident. The witness said Hersha came to the residence to give a woman a ride to Larwill. The woman was 5 1/2 months pregnant at the time of the incident. When Hersha and the woman returned to the residence, the woman appeared visibly distraught. The woman told the witness she and Hersha fought while traveling to Larwill.
While at the residence, Hersha allegedly wrapped his arms around the woman in a manner that looked like he was going to throw her down. When a man at the scene attempted to intervene, Hersha hit the man’s face and pushed the pregnant woman.
Three children were at the residence during the altercation.
Hersha has already been arrested and released on bond.
