Bremen Man Arrested After Stabbing Incident In Nappanee

NAPPANEE — A Bremen man was arrested for allegedly stabbing a man in Nappanee several times.
Shane Jeffrey Slavey, 26, 329 S. Birkey St. Apartment Q., Bremen, is charged with aggravated battery, a level 3 felony; and domestic battery by means of a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony.
On Sept. 20, the Nappanee Police Department responded to a stabbing report. Upon arrival, officers spoke with Slavey, who said he had an altercation with a man.
According to court documents, Slavey said the man started punching him in the head and pinned him against a sink. Slavey told officers he grabbed a knife and stabbed the man in the back and chest. He said he knew what he did was wrong but felt like he had no choice.
EMS at the scene said the man sustained four stab wounds. The man was flown to a South Bend hospital for treatment. Officers later received information that the man was in stable condition, with one of his wounds puncturing his lungs.
Slavey sustained minor injuries to his nose, jaw, and upper body. He was treated by medics at the scene.
Slavey was booked in the Elkhart County Correctional Complex on Sept. 20.
