Syracuse Public Library — SPL And Museum Partner On Traveling Artifact Exhibit
News Release
SYRACUSE — The Syracuse Public Library is partnering with the Syracuse-Wawasee Historical Museum to hold a traveling, community artifact exhibit. Community members can loan local artifacts and heirlooms to this exhibit, including photos, locally-found fossils, locally-made items, etc.
Items must be brought to the library by Friday, Oct. 4, with a brief postcard-size description. They will then be displayed at the library from Oct. 7-11 before going to the museum from Oct. 11-21. After the exhibit wraps up, items can be picked up at the library starting Tuesday, Oct. 22.
This exhibit is a part of the library’s “One State/One Story: All That She Carried” programming, which is presented by Indiana Humanities in partnership with the Indiana Center for the Book and the Indiana State Library as part of Indiana Humanities’ Advancing Racial Equity Project, supported by Lilly Endowment.
New Craftella Program
Syracuse Public Library offers a new evening craft program for adults called Craftella. The first project will be creating autumn diamond painting bookmarks. Supplies are limited so register on the library’s online calendar at tinyurl.com/CraftellaDiamond.
Friends Of The Library Meeting
The Friends of the Syracuse Public Library will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, in the library’s downstairs meeting room. People interested in learning about the Friends and its mission to support the library are invited to attend. Since this meeting occurs before the library opens, knock on the southernmost North Harrison Street door — near the staff parking lot — to enter.
Young Adult Programming
The teen advisory board will meet from 4-5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, in the Rosalyn Jones Room. The group will vote on officers. Teens interested in helping shape library programs are encouraged to fill out the online form at tinyurl.com/SPLTeenAdvisory.
Young adult video gaming meets from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, in the Rosalyn Jones Room. Play on the library’s Nintendo Switch while enjoying snacks.
Children’s Programming
Children will create fall garlands during the next CrafterNoon at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, in the downstairs meeting room. Children of all ages can attend, though younger ones may require the assistance of their grownups.
Story time meets at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, in the children’s department. There will be new stories to enjoy while preschoolers learn more about the alphabet and pick up some Spanish and American Sign Language. There will also be a craft related to this week’s letter, “H.”
SPL’s home-school class also meets at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, in the downstairs meeting room. Children in first through third grade will use pumpkins while learning about geography. This class will be more advanced so older students can attend. Parents may also want to help younger students with the project.
