Warsaw DAR Chapter Learns About Live Well Kosciusko
News Release
WARSAW — The Agnes Pruyn Chapman Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revollution met at noon Tuesday, Sept. 24, at the Pizza Hut East in Warsaw.
The guest speaker was Jessica Camarena from Live Well Kosciusko, a nonprofit located in the K21 building that is trying to help people in Kosciusko County live healthy lives. Live Well has four key focus areas. One area is the Cancer Coalition, which helps with the early detection and prevention of cancer. There will be a health fair from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at the YMCA, where they are offering free health assessments and screenings. Another focus area is the Breathe Well Coalition, which is helping residents with tobacco and vaping cessation. As an incentive, pregnant and new mothers who smoked before pregnancy may receive up to $250 in Walmart gift cards for diapers and baby wipes after quitting if they continue to test smoke-free.
Regent Kathy Gawthrop opened the business meeting by leading with the DAR opening rituals. Jennifer Simpson read the president general’s message. Alice Adams gave the national defense report on “The Constitution Now or Never.” The country will soon be celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The country would not have been possible without the Constitution, which was the means to develop a new self-ruling style of government.
Susan Creamer read the secretary’s minutes, and Janice Cox gave the treasurer’s report. Gawthrop reported that all the high schools now have the information for the Good Citizen Contest.
The local chapter voted to donate $500 each to the Michiana Goodwill Veteran Stand Down, the Combined Community Service Food Pantry in Warsaw and Fellowship Missions in Warsaw. Gawthrop presented information on the three nonprofit organizations.
The next meeting will be at noon Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Pizza Hut. The program will be presented by the Court Appointed Special Advocate program.
DAR membership is open to all women who can prove an ancestor fought in or gave aid during the American Revolutionary War. For more information, visit the DAR website at dar.org.
