Area Accident Reports
Kosciusko County
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office investigated the following accidents:
- 8:26 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, North SR 19, south of West CR 1050N, Nappanee. Driver: Matthew S. Jourdan, 44, Ringneck Trail, Warsaw. Jourdan was traveling south on North SR 19 when he rear-ended a horse-drawn buggy. Joni Kuhns, 49, Nappanee, was operating the buggy and complained of shoulder and upper arm pain. Irene Kuhns, 76, Nappanee, was a passenger in the buggy and was severely injured. She was taken to Elkhart General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead from her injuries sustained in the accident. Several additional passengers in the buggy were also injured. Lizzie Kuhns, 50, complained of knee and lower leg pain. Jeremiah Kuhns, 7, Nappanee, sustained a head contusion. Freeman Kuhns, 81, Nappanee, complained of back pain. Damage up to $50,000.
- 1:24 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, West US 30, west of North SR 19, Etna Green. Driver: Andrew M. Zukoski, 41, Ubion Street, Lake Station. Zukoski was traveling east on West US 30 when a semi lost a piece of metal from its trailer. Zukoski’s vehicle hit the metal, causing damage to the undercarriage of his vehicle. Damage up to $5,000.
- 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, East Old Road 30, east of Kosciusko Drive, Warsaw. Drivers: Lucas A. Howland, 31, East Center Street, Warsaw; and Dennis K. Rothenberger, 74, North Cheyenne Drive, Warsaw. Howland’s vehicle rear-ended Rothenberger’s. Damage up to $2,500.
- 4:22 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, North CR 475E, at the intersection of East CR 375N, Warsaw. Driver: Dylan S. Rodewald, 20, Bancroft Avenue, Rochester. Rodewald’s vehicle left the roadway to avoid hitting a vehicle stopped at a tree which had fallen into the roadway. Damage up to $2,500.
- 5:53 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, North CR 700W, north of North Williamson Drive, Warsaw. Driver: Glen A. Ransbottom, 63, West CR 650N, Etna Green. Ransbottom’s vehicle hit a deer. Damage up to $2,500.
- 6:42 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, South SR 15, north of West CR 1300S, Silver Lake. Driver: Matthew S. Barton, 44, East CR 100N, Wabash. Barton’s vehicle hit a deer. Damage up to $10,000.
- 5:40 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, South CR 950W, south of West CR 200S, Mentone. Driver: Brandon Webster, 26, North CR 175E, Warsaw. Webster’s vehicle hit a deer. Damage up to $10,000.
- 10:39 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, North SR 13, north of East Shoop Road, Pierceton. Driver: Ronald E. Deal, 41, North Walker Drive, Columbia City. Deal’s vehicle hit a deer. Damage up to $10,000.
- 2:32 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, South Amanda Drive, south of West CR 900S, Claypool. Driver: Jonathon W. Lockwood, 37, East SR 8, Knox. The gravel on the roadway pulled Lockwood’s vehicle off the roadway while he was delivering mail. This caused Lockwood’s vehicle to hit a railroad tie that was in the grass. Damage up to $10,000.
- 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, North SR 13, north of East Old Road 30, Pierceton. Driver: Scott M. Partridge, 63, East Vallejo Avenue, Temecula, Calif. Partridge’s vehicle hit a deer. Damage up to $10,000.
- 5:26 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, EMS W30 Lane, east of EMS W30B Lane, North Webster. Driver: Reo W. Parrett, 66, North CR 400W, Huntington. Parrett was backing his vehicle from a driveway when he hit a parked vehicle. Thiler Claxton, Elkhart, was in the back of the parked vehicle, sorting through packages, when the vehicle he was driving was hit. Damage up to $25,000.
- 5:07 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, 205 N. First St., Pierceton. Driver: Sara M. Russell, 72, South First Street, Pierceton. Russell was attempting to back her vehicle from a parking space when she hit a parked, unoccupied vehicle. Damage up to $5,000.
