Study Finds Indiana Among Top 10 States for Teachers

INDIANAPOLIS — “Despite having one of the most crucial jobs in America — educating the next generation — teachers are often underpaid and under-appreciated,” says Analyst Chip Lupo in the findings of WalletHub’s Best & Worst States for Teachers 2024.
“The states that make a teaching career the most rewarding are those that compensate educators well, invest heavily in educational resources, pass laws that improve school-system quality, and provide supportive conditions that lead to low turnover.”
WalletHub stated the factors for determining the best states for teachers include compensation, tenure protections, state spending per student, school-system quality and turnover rates.
Indiana ranked 10th among all states.
According to WalletHub’s ranking, the best states for teachers in 2024 are New York, Washington, Virginia, Utah and Maryland. The worst states for teachers in 2024 are Tennessee, Nevada, New Hampshire, Hawaii and Maine.
